5 Questions With Taylor Tomlinson

Comedian and Laugh Aid alum Taylor Tomlinson has a Netflix special, is currently touring the country, and has been keeping us laughing during lockdown with her hilarious social media posts. So she is the perfect person to get advice and insight from when it comes to the funny business. Read 5 Questions with Taylor Tomlinson:

1 - What made you decide to be in comedy?

I took a comedy class with my dad my junior year of high school. I had terrible stage fright and didn't think I would ever be able to do it professionally. But I loved it and really felt like myself - or at least, the person I wanted to be - onstage. It wasn't until a few years later when I took a semester off school to pursue it that I realized it could be my job. I went full-time shortly after.

2 - Who inspired you to do what you do?

We used to listen to Brian Regan in the car as a family because he's hilarious and clean. I got to open for him years later and he's as kind as he is talented. People like that inspire me.

3 - Who comes to mind when you think of groundbreaking women in comedy?

Maria Bamford has been my favorite comedian for a long time. I think she's so smart and different and unbelievably funny in a way nobody else is or could be.

4 - Who is the one woman you would you want to work with?

Emma Thompson. I'm not an actor so I don't know why I would, but I think she seems cool.

5 - What would you tell your younger self?

Once you graduate, you won't think about school at all. I know everything feels super important in high school but it's not. Go to therapy and see a psychiatrist.

We agree with Taylor! Brian Regan is kind: he donated big to Comedy Gives Back's COVID relief fund, Maria Bamford is hilarious (don't miss her Zoom shows) and we also want to work with Emma Thompson.
